| Konu | Kural | Örnek |
|---|---|---|
| Olumlu | had + V3 (her özneyle aynı) | I had left. / She had left. |
| Olumsuz | hadn't + V3 | We hadn't eaten. |
| Soru | Had + özne + V3? | Had you met him before? — Yes, I had. |
| Kısaltma | I'd / she'd / they'd + V3 = had | I'd already eaten. |
When I arrived, the train had left. |
| Zaman sözcükleri | already, just, never … before, by the time | By the time I got there, everyone had left. |
| Sebep | geçmişteki durumun daha önceki sebebi | She was upset because she had lost her bag. |
| Dikkat | olaylar sırayla anlatılıyorsa Past Simple yeter | I got up, had a shower and left. |
Yapısı çok kolay: had + V3 — her özneyle aynı: I had left, she had left, they had left.
Türkçede tam karşılığı var: “-mıştı / -mişti”. Gitmişti → had gone. Yemiştik → we had eaten.
Olumsuz: hadn't + V3 (görmemiştim = I hadn't seen). Soru: Had başa geçer: Had you met him before? (Onunla daha önce tanışmış mıydın?) Kısa cevap: Yes, I had. / No, I hadn't.
Kısaltma: I'd, you'd, she'd, we'd, they'd. Dikkat: I'd hem I had hem I would olabilir. Arkasından V3 geliyorsa had'dir: I'd finished = I had finished.
When I got to the station, the train had left.
İstasyona vardığımda tren kalkmıştı.
She had never seen the sea before.
Daha önce hiç deniz görmemişti.
Had you eaten before the party?
Partiden önce yemek yemiş miydin?
Past Perfect'te özneye göre değişiklik yok, hep had. Soruda did kullanılmaz: “Did you had seen…?” ✗ → Had you seen…? ✓
When I got home, my brother had eaten all the pizza. (Önce kardeşim yedi, sonra ben geldim.)
Zamanı değiştirmek anlamı değiştirir: When I arrived, the meeting started. = Ben gelince toplantı başladı. When I arrived, the meeting had started. = Ben geldiğimde toplantı çoktan başlamıştı (geç kaldım).
Olayları olduğu sırayla anlatıyorsan Past Perfect'e gerek yok: I woke up, had a shower and went to work. Past Perfect, hikâyede geriye dönmek için kullanılır.
Türkçedeki “-dığında … -mıştı” kalıbı neredeyse her zaman İngilizcede when + Past Simple, … had + V3 olur.
When I got home, my brother had eaten all the pizza.
Eve geldiğimde kardeşim bütün pizzayı yemişti.
When we arrived, the meeting had started.
Vardığımızda toplantı başlamıştı.
When we arrived, the meeting started.
Past Perfect ile sık kullanılan sözcükler: already (çoktan), just (az önce), never (hiç) had ile V3'ün arasına girer; before (daha önce) cümlenin sonuna gelir: She had already left. I had never flown before.
by the time = -dığında (o ana kadar çoktan): By the time I got there, everyone had left. by the time'dan sonra Past Simple, ana cümlede Past Perfect gelir.
It was the first time kalıbı da Past Perfect ister: It was the first time I had seen snow. Türkçede “İlk kez kar görüyordum” deriz; bu yüzden Türkler burada genellikle yanlış zamanı seçer.
after / before ile sıra zaten belli olduğu için Past Simple de kullanılabilir: After she had finished her coffee, she left. = After she finished her coffee, she left. İkisi de doğru.
By the time I got there, everyone had left.
Oraya vardığımda herkes çoktan gitmişti.
I had never flown before that trip.
O yolculuktan önce hiç uçmamıştım.
It was the first time I had seen snow.
İlk kez kar görüyordum.
by the time neredeyse her zaman çoktan anlamı taşır: “Oraya varana kadar iş işten geçmişti.”
She was upset because she had lost her bag. (Üzgündü çünkü çantasını kaybetmişti.)
Durum Past Simple, sebep Past Perfect: I wasn't hungry because I'd already eaten. The streets were wet. It had rained in the night.
Present Perfect → Past Perfect: Hikâyeyi geçmişe taşıyınca have de had olur. I'm not hungry. I've eaten. → I wasn't hungry. I'd eaten.
Türklerin hatası: geçmiş bir hikâyede Present Perfect kullanmak: “I couldn't get in because I have lost my key” ✗ → I had lost my key ✓.
She was upset because she had lost her bag.
Üzgündü çünkü çantasını kaybetmişti.
I wasn't hungry because I'd already eaten.
Aç değildim çünkü çoktan yemiştim.
He didn't come to the party because nobody had invited him.
Yapı: had + V3 (her özneyle). Olumsuz: hadn't + V3. Soru: Had + özne + V3? Türkçe karşılığı: -mıştı / -mişti.
İki geçmiş olaydan önce olan Past Perfect, sonra olan Past Simple. already, never … before, by the time, It was the first time ile sık kullanılır. Olaylar sırayla anlatılıyorsa Past Simple yeter.
When I got to the party, Ali had already left.
Partiye vardığımda Ali çoktan gitmişti.
I hadn't met him before, so I didn't know who he was.
They had never heard of that band before.
O grubu daha önce hiç duymamışlardı.
